Description

Since 1994, the United States Air Force Academy Center for Physics Education Research (CPER) has been developing active learner instructional materials, incorporating technology into research-based pedagogies. Just-in-Time Teaching (JiTT), developed at CPER in collaboration with other universities, has found its way into virtually all academic disciplines, nationally and internationally. Current CPER research includes developing a comprehensive flipped learning pedagogy by extending JiTT via worked-examples. We are developing mobile technology-based tools to motivate and monitor student engagement. Other projects include developing laboratory-based learning modules that develop critical thinking skills and quantitative and scientific reasoning. As part of the flipped-learning initiative, we are investigating ways to create a holistic approach to learning by connecting post-class materials with pre-class and in-class activities. Currently, we have funding from the National Science Foundation and a private foundation. We have collaborative projects with six universities and community colleges.
