Research opportunities are currently available for theoretical and experimental investigations in mid-IR quantum optical phenomenon. Currently, we are interested in exploiting the large dipole moments of intra-sub-band transitions in quantum well structures to achieve ultrastrong coupling to plasmonic modes through metallic gratings. Such ultrastrong coupling leads to vacuum Rabi splitting values much larger than those currently obtained with traditional photonic based structures. In addition to more standard experimental tools, a unique high brightness frequency comb Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer will be available. Further investigations will be performed to study the quantum nature of these devices.
