NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program seeks a postdoctoral researcher to support ocean acidification (OA)-focused environmental data synthesis. The postdoc will ensure environmental observing data are transitioned to useful products to inform modelers and target stakeholder audiences. They may develop synthesis products with historical and modern data, utilize data analyses to assess areas of vulnerability at regional to local scales across the United States Large Marine Ecosystems, improve the use of data from remote sensing tools for OA applications, or develop products that will address key scientific questions in the carbon observing community. Efforts should make significant use of repositories of NOAA funded and sponsored data.

Project background: NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program funds the monitoring of ocean acidification and carbonate system dynamics nationwide through annual cruises, coastal oceanographic moorings, autonomous and remote sensing, community science, and partnerships with coastal stakeholders. The information collected by these observing activities is used to develop high-resolution hindcast and forecast models, inform laboratory experiments on OA, address coastal stakeholder needs, and track changes in the earth system. The postdoc will conduct a synthesis of this environmental data to address one or more of the needs outlined above at a national scale.
