Description
New technologies often rely on special materials that must have the ability to simultaneously exhibit multiple orthogonal properties, such as electrical and ionic conductivity, optical transparency, chemical stability or reactivity, energy content, and/or catalytic activity. Some examples are battery or fuel cell electrode materials, electrically initiated and propagated solid fuels, and controlled/actuated gas storage or purification technologies. In this research opportunity, the successfuly candidate will investigate novel approaches to design and assembly of new types of multifunctional materials with consideration of morphology and functional features on multi-length scales that will exhibit special properties of interest for Naval applications.
