Description

This position involves the research, development, and evaluation of innovative, often mixed-initiative systems for decision support and related tasks. Our current research foci include intelligent agents (emphases: goal reasoning; planning and acting), machine learning (e.g., generative AI, deep learning), case-based reasoning, and explainable AI (XAI) algorithms, and may involve knowledge-based systems that incorporate integrated ontologies to support the inferencing necessary to assist users. Current and prior projects have included work on goal reasoning, ML, XAI, transfer learning, active learning, statistical relational learning, anomaly detection (e.g., for maritime threat analysis), intelligent agents (e.g., in gaming and training environments), mixed-initiative planning (to reduce the amount of time to create plans), intelligent lessons learned systems (both collection and distribution), and knowledge extraction from text documents. We enjoy close ties with academia, industry partners, other DoD labs, DoD stakeholders, and other customers who can benefit from the prototypes that we develop. Our group often includes postdoctoral and visiting summer researchers.
