Separation of internal waves from oceanic state variables
Naval Research Laboratory, MS, Ocean Sciences
The research aims to understand how the presence of internal waves are manifest within oceanic state variables. Sought are analyses techniques to separate the internal wave signal from ocean state variables such as sea surface height, three-dimensional currents, temperature and salinity. One goal is to validate regional ocean circulation models that receive forcing from a global ocean model solution that contains both tides and internally-generated internal waves. Required are strong programming skills and knowledge of internal wave processes and regional and global ocean numerical modeling techniques.
