Description
Fast paced research opportunities are available as part of a consortium of synthetic biologists, chemists, and engineers with your laboratory located at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center. Good communication skills and ability to work with others ensures success. The research program seeks to develop more effective ways to sense and respond to chemicals (fuel, toxic industrial chemicals, explosives) and biological organisms (pathogens, toxins, biomarkers). Current research thrust areas include (1) colorimetric sensing arrays that respond to volatile organic compounds which are interpreted by smartphone applications, (2) developing DNA data storage and transmission methodologies, (3) technologies to covertly tag high security items using DNA barcodes, and (4) using synthetic biology and biofabrication to produce paper-based genes switches that sense and respond to the environment. The Edgewood Chemical Biological Center provides a dynamic and interactive work environment which favors innovative researchers who can take advantage of the chemical and engineering centers located across the campus. These capabilities offer full scale bioprocessing, additive manufacturing, and chemical synthesis and characterization centers of excellence.
