Description
The detailed analysis of a wide variety of chemical reactions plays a central role in a number of Air Force and DOD applications ranging from a variety of laser systems, to upper atmospheric chemistry, to the development of new high energy density materials. To support these efforts, we are developing new computational methods to characterize chemical reactions. Our approach employs time dependent wave packet dynamics to calculate scattering matrix elements and associated reaction rates and cross sections. Recent efforts have focused on the non-adiabatic fine structure relaxation rate in optically pumped alkali lasers. Researchers with experience in computational physics, molecular dynamics, wave packet propagation, or related areas are encouraged to apply.
