Description

The mission of the Collaborative Technologies Branch, Teaming Enhancements Section is to generate capability to dynamically and accurately assess contextualized team performance that assures continually optimized decision-making in distributed and multi-mixed teams (human-human and human-machine teams; teams and teams-of-teams). Our goal is to enable the rapid formation, real-time assessment, and dynamically optimized performance of distributed heterogeneous multi-mixed teams for rapid, agile and robust mission operations.

Technical challenges of this research area include: (1) methods to support the rapid formation of mission-effective, distributed multi-mixed heterogenous teams; (2) approaches to dynamically monitor team processes and states via optimized assemblage of novel and existing metrics; and (3) development of real-time contextual aids to maximize team performance.

My current research interests include development of novel, nonintrusive metrics, derived from sources such as behavior, communication, physiology, etc., to assess team processes and states in near-real-time – frequently our measures have been derived from dynamical systems theory and nonlinear analytics; 2) natural language processing to model team cognition; and 3) automatic sensemaking of complex team processes & states to support decision-making.

I am seeking highly skilled and motivated scientists or engineers with expertise in team research to lead research projects on team theory, team performance and process, communication, and decision making. This could include, but is not limited to, development and validation of novel metrics of team performance or processes; application of automatic speech recognition, machine learning, natural language processing, and transformer models to support sensemaking of team communications; and state-of-the-art visualization techniques to support team monitoring/prediction and data-driven decision-making.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in applying and would like to discuss your proposed project.
