Description
We are looking for motivated researchers to help develop algorithms for NextGen plasma modeling. Among the technologies of interest are relativistic non-neutral plasmas for microwave radio-frequency (RF) enhancement and laser plasma research utilizing a range of computational methods including particle-in-cell (PIC), plasma fluid modeling, and kinetic theory. Two specific areas of research are in accurate modeling of complex microwave devices and the RF generation from ultra-short pulsed laser (USPL) derived filaments. For the microwave devices, we are interested in high-fidelity, fully conformal, relativistic simulation electromagnetic-PIC of complex geometries. For USPL, we are interested in simulation of Vlasov and collisional Boltzmann equations to handle the non-equilibrium modeling of the underlying physics. Successful candidates should know an advanced programming language such as C/C++ and/or modern Fortran, as well as the basics of parallel programming for large scale computing. Experience with high-order and/or spectral methods and advanced computer architecture hardware (such as GPGPU and or coprocessor [e.g. Tesla, Phi, etc.]) programming is a plus.
