Description

Evaluate existing modeling and simulation frameworks that enable the study of real-world Quantum Networks. Develop new or extend existing frameworks to accurately model quantum networks, to degree necessary, that are modular, scalable, exploit Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), and employ open source where possible. The simulation framework should enable the user to select the accuracy as needed from very detailed, first-principle physics models to more abstract “approximate” models which allow tradeoffs in accuracy and simulation runtime. The simulation framework should be modular and composable to enable different level of abstractions of individual components, models, or functional blocks to be easily interchanged. The simulation framework should be scalable and enable the investigation of large quantum networks. Multiple internal representations should be defined so that we mitigate state space explosion when possible. The simulation framework work products should formalize and document SME knowledge so that other non-SMEs can use the simulator and benefit (learn) from the project.
