Description
This research involves utilization of Phased Array Radar (PAR) observations to better understand atmospheric convective events and the utility of PAR in weather observations. This research includes all aspects of convection, including supercell thunderstorms, tornadoes, wind, hail, heavy precipitation, and other severe/winter hazards. We are primarily interested in using data collected by the Advanced Technology Demonstrator (ATD; a dual-pol PAR at NSSL) to explore new and novel ways to use radar meteorology to accomplish basic research and to improve the operational feasibility of PAR as a potential future national radar network. Related work focuses on exploring various aspects of radar algorithm development (including machine learning) with PAR data and developing new tools for PAR technology.

Experience Supplement
Postdoctoral and Senior awardees will receive an appropriately higher stipend based on the number of years of experience past their PhD.

Additional Benefits
Relocation
Awardees who reside more than 50 miles from their host laboratory and remain on tenure for at least six months are eligible for paid relocation to within the vicinity of their host laboratory.
