Description

Integrated photonics started a revolution in the field of optical communication by providing high-performance devices in a much smaller, more scalable footprint than conventional optical devices. Even more exciting applications for integrated photonics are possible by adding new degrees of freedom, such as mechanical and electro-mechanical functionality. Cavity optomechanical devices, for example, have shown promise as microwave-to-optical transducers and sensors.

Our group is looking for researchers who are interested in developing integrated photonic transducers, including cavity optomechanical devices and optical nano-electro-mechanical systems (NEMS). We design photonic and mechanical devices using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and finite element method (FEM) simulation software, and fabricate our devices in-house using state-of-the-art nanofabrication tools. We have several room-temperature and cryogenic photonic characterization stations. We are looking for researchers with relevant skills that may include photonic device design, NEMS/MEMS design, nanofabrication, and photonic device characterization.

key words
