Description

Research focuses on developing new techniques for determination of compounds of forensic interest. We are particularly interested in investigations of new approaches for detecting and measuring drugs of abuse in tissues and body fluids. Research is encouraged on the analysis of hair for drugs of abuse to determine whether ingestion of drugs can be distinguished from environmental exposure. Supercritical fluid extractions and chiral separations are two promising approaches for determining routes of drugs into hair that are worth investigating. The research may involve a wide variety of analytical techniques including liquid, gas, or supercritical fluid chromatography; solid-phase, supercritical fluid, or pressurized fluid extractions; mass spectrometry; and capillary electrophoresis. Other forensic-related applications of these techniques to the development of methods and/or standards are encouraged.
