NIST only participates in the February and August reviews.
Leader of the Flammability Reduction Group in NIST’s Fire Research Division is looking for reserchers intertested in conducting research aimed at reducing the fire hazard of and exposure of potentially harmful chemicals used in products and materials found in buidling contents and construction, fire fighter gear, and a wide variety of other commerical and residential applications.
Examples include:
Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-Fire Fighter Gear Research
· determining the risk of firefighter’s being exposed to PFAS form their gear and occuptational environments
· complex, multi-scale solid state and aerosol testing and analysis
· a wide range of flexibility - applied bench- and full-scale fire testing, analysis (liquid and/or gas chromatograph-mass spectroscopy
Fire Research
1. developing, using, and deploying multiscale fire testing and computational tools to reduce the fire hazard of building content and construction materials
2. developing and evaluating novel characterization and analytical tools to understand fire retardant mechanisms
3. developing and evaluating novel fire and flame retardant technologies
