Description

Vaccine products and the production processes used to manufacture these products are highly complex and currently not fully defined by measurement.  In practice, the combination of stringent regulatory oversight and limited product/process understanding leads to very rigid, slow and expensive manufacturing processes for vaccine products. To address the measurement gaps and gain a better understanding and control over vaccine product quality and manufacturing processes, we are developing analytical technologies based on solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR), time-resolved kinetics and other biophysical techniques that can be used for characterization of both vaccine products and vaccine manufacturing processes. The techniques being developed focus on structural characterizing antigen-adjuvant complexes, which are the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) of many vaccines, as well as the individual antigens and adjuvants.
