Interactions between biomacromolecules determine their solution structures, cluster formation, phase diagram and dynamics. For biomacromolecules, such as proteins, scattering techniques are still the main tool to obtain the interaction information due to their small sizes. We are interested in furthering our understanding of the structures and interactions of proteins and other biomacromolecules in solutions using scattering methods. The research includes, but not limited to, developing novel scattering methods to obtain the interaction information accurately, understanding the roles of different solvent molecules on the effective interaction, and the structure of reversible cluster formation driven by the interaction. The research outcome will be important and useful for both the R&D of the pharmaceutical industry and the fundamental understanding of proteins and other macromolecules in many biological systems.
