Description
Ribonucleic acid (RNA) can fold into a variety of complex structures and as a result, participate in a wide range of biological processes. RNA has a tendency to adopt multiple conformations, making it difficult to define unique structures and detect transient or low occupancy states. Furthermore, the ability to gain sequence information has greatly outpaced our ability to gain any information about RNA structure and dynamics. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop fluorescence-based methods for screening RNA molecules for structure at the single-molecule level and in a high-throughput manner. Ultimately, advancing RNA structural metrology will further biomedical research, drug discovery, and emerging synthetic biology efforts to engineer biological systems.
