Description

Analytical and experimental investigations are in progress in the following areas: (1) Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning for object aquisition, classfication, pose estimation, and tracking with applications to imaging satellites and laser beam control systems; (2) structural, control, and optics interaction of large flexible space mirrors; (3) vibration isolation, optical beam jitter control, and active structural control; (4) correction of laser beam and image abberation due to atmospheric turbulence by using adaptive optics; (5) sensing and correction of laser beam abberation due to deep turbulence (6) robust and multi-input and multi-output control for adaptive optics; (9) Control Moment Gyro (CMG) Control; (10) High Energy Laser Beam Control; and (11) surface and alignment control of segmented mirror space telescope using adaptive optics.

Artifical Intelligence Laboratory has been developed for research in artificial intelligence. Adaptive Optics Center of Excellence has been established with emphasis on large segmented mirrror space telescope and high energy laser beam control. State-of-the-art test beds are available to validate analytical investigation. A three meter segmented mirror space telescope test bed is used for research in structures, control, and adaptive optics. A laser beam control test bed is used to do research on acquisition, tracking, and pointing, jitter control, and correction of beam aberration due to atmospheric turbulence using adaptive optics. More detail about the program can be found at http://www.nps.edu/srdc/.
