Description
Recent advances in metamaterials technologies allow the fabrication of electromagnetic and acoustic metamaterials built for various frequency bands (electromagnetic and acoustic) and for a wide variety of applications. The current research interests include the design, fabrication and testing of novel narrow-band and broadband metamaterials, from microscale, designed for THz frequencies, to centimeter-scale for microwave frequencies as well as acoustic metamaterials for audible to ultrasound frequencies. Metamaterial-based devices will be developed for applications ranging from miniature MEMS sensors to large scale flexible selective surfaces. The metamaterial design, fabrication, and characterization will be performed at NPS facilities while collaboration with universities/national laboratories are also utilized for extensive testing. Applicants with strong hands-on expertise in finite element simulation, microfabrication and complex experimental setups are encouraged.
