The Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in developing synthetic phages as antibiotic alternatives.
By participating in DoD funded research programs, the successful candidate will be responsible for (1) engineering Phage tails with varied host specificity using synthetic biology approaches; (2) Developing and characterizing synthetic phages for in vivo applications. The candidate will have 2 years of financial support, access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and an opportunity for permanent employment based on performance and funding.
The candidate must have acquired a Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, structure biology or a related field within the past five years and have demonstrated experience with molecular biology techniques. Previous experience with phage biology and engineering is preferred. The candidate must be well-organized, self-motivated and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
This Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available through a competitive process with the American Society for Engineering Education Program or NRC Research Associateship Program and will offer a salary of $87,000 per annum. U.S. citizenship is required.
