Description
This research program seeks to determine the mechanisms involved in corrosion and other electrochemical processes. We are particularly interested in the processes occurring at the oxide/solution and oxide/metal interfaces, and the composition of oxide films. Our experimental approach combines electrochemical testing using standard potentiostats, controlled temperature/relative humidity chambers, rotating ring disk electrodes, stress-effects on corrosion kinetics, and surface analysis techniques such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and glow-discharge, optical emission spectroscopy (GD-OES) while our modeling and theory approaches are focused on kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations and macroscale models of corrosion processes.
