Description
Research is conducted in the area of modeling coupled bio-optical, physical processes by using nested, data assimilating numerical models. Research topics include (1) physical-biological-optical modeling of coastal processes, (2) joint data assimilation of physical and bio-optical remote and in-situ observations, (3) adaptive sampling of physical and bio-optical properties of the coastal environment, (4) understanding of coupled bio-optical and physical processes in the coastal zone that govern the variability and predictability of the underwater light field, (5) development of a methodology for predictions of the underwater light on a timescale of 1 to 5 days, and (6) impact of two-way, air-sea coupling on modeling of upwelling/relaxation events in the coastal ocean.
