Description

Fundamental studies in electronic transport in 2D materials and heterostructures, in the ultra-clean limit, continue to expand the forefront of our understanding of these materials systems and condensed matter physics as a whole.  Optoelectronic studies also provide new insight into the fundamental electronic properties of the materials, yet often these two research thrusts are conducted in isolation. Merging fundamental transport properties of ultra-clean multi-gated 2D heterostructure devices, with spatially resolved optoelectronic studies, promises to broaden our understanding, and enable a more meaningful comparison with theory. These fundamental studies, when coupled with advance materials growth and processing techniques, like low-energy ion implantation, are anticipated to provide the necessary intuition and physical means to transition this knowledge into a practical electronic technology. Eligible candidates with experience in 2D materials processing, nanofabrication and/or optoelectronic characterization are encouraged to apply.
