Description

The Navy will soon rely on underwater autonomous systems and networks. This research opportunity centers on improving underwater acoustic communications, autonomy, and signal processing. Methods, systems, and algorithms to transmit digital information in the ocean or detect targets of interest need to be developed, simulated, and experimentally measured. Short-term gains include improved acoustic modems and networking, as well as target detection. Long-term gains include autonomous networked systems that detect and exfiltrate important information while maintaining longevity; power efficiency; and reducing complexity, size, and cost.
