Description
The Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in the following areas:
Marine Environmental DNA (eDNA) Research
The successful candidate will be joining a multidisciplinary team of scientists interested in the development of field-forward DNA sequencing applications. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for developing and standardizing field-forward, nanopore-based, eDNA metabarcode/metagenome sequencing protocols to enable short-term biohazard warnings for Navy customers. The candidate must have acquired a Ph.D. in marine ecology, marine biology, environmental science or a related discipline within the past five years and have demonstrated experience in DNA sequencing and associated analyses. Previous experience with nanopore sequencing is highly desirable. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and must be self-motivated, well-organized and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. This postdoctoral position is available through a competitive process with the National Research Council Associateship Program. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required. Qualified candidates should contact Gary J. Vora at gary.vora@nrl.navy.mil. The Naval Research Laboratory is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
