Description
This basic and applied research opportunity invites the applicant to define a research program that optimizes the synthesis of high purity, high density and nanostructured multicomponent ceramics of various compositions for consistent, reproducible results. It is expected that key variables in the process will be modelled, e.g., sintering curves, and relevant mechanisms identified. The ideal candidate will have background knowledge in ceramics and solid-state synthesis methods. The candidate will have access to experts in ceramic and nanomaterial synthesis and a suite of equipment and instruments that will enable this work, but are encouraged to contact the advisor to discuss their approach. Potential applications for these materials range from the aerospace to energy sectors. This work is envisioned to have impact on multiple programs both within NRL and across the DOD.
