The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is seeking a postdoctoral associate in applied math
with applictaions to physical oceanography. The focus will be on sparse approximations
to the inverse of JPL error covariance model of the SWOT altimeter. The work requires
excellent programming skills (Matlab, Python, Fortran, Unix scripting) and numerical
modeling experience. Understanding of the data assimilation algorithms will be a plus.
Apart for the analytic work on the matrix approximation, numerical experimentation with a
regional configuration of the NCOM data assimilation system will be utilized
extensively for testing the accuracy of the approximations. The Naval Research Laboratory
provides an opportunity to work with a large group of internationally recognized researchers.
We have access to superb supercomputing and general computational resources.
A postdoctoral fellow will be hired with stipend of $80K/year for 2 years with an
excellent opportunity of extension.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
NRL is an equal opportunity employer. Project start date is 1 April 2023.
Interested applicants should send a resume to Max Yaremchuk
(max.yaremchuk@nrlssc.navy.mil).
