Description

The Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center, MS (NRL-SSC) has an opening for a post-doctorate researcher to advance our understanding of oceanic boundary layer turbulence and the capability to parameterize turbulent mixing in state-of-art ocean circulation models. This includes but is not limited to: use of observations to evaluate the realism of the numerical simulations and to adjust existing empirical parameterizations; perform novel and original research in analysis and development of existing turbulence models; develop new turbulence modeling strategies; contribute to improve understanding of interaction between boundary layer turbulence and submesocale features, etc.

The selected candidate should have a strong background in oceanic dynamics. Expertise in one or more areas of modeling of turbulence using mathematical analysis, Direct Numerical Simulations and Large Eddy Simulations is highly desirable. Experience in Fortran, Matlab or Python would be a plus.

NRL-SSC provides an opportunity to work with a large group of internationally recognized oceanographers highly skilled in numerical modeling, observations, and data analysis.  The postdoc will have first-hand access to field measurements of turbulence, as well as major supercomputing sites in addition to excellent local computer resources.

Annual postdoctoral salary is $86,962. Applicants must be a US citizen or US permanent residents at time of application. NRL is an equal opportunity employer.
