Postdoctoral Opportunity at Naval Research Laboratory:
Bioengineering, Biomaterial Synthesis and Microbiology
The Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in bioengineering and material science.
By participating DoD funded research programs, the successful candidate will be responsible for (1) engineering microorganisms to synthesize novel biomaterials; (2) developing and characterizing biopolymer composites or living materials for aerospace, environmental and biomedical applications. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and participate in cross-disciplinary programs spanning modern biology, physics, chemistry, and engineering to address problems of critical importance to the Navy, the Department of Defense, and the Nation.
The candidate must have acquired a Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, material science or a related field within the past five years and have demonstrated experience with molecular biology or material science techniques. Previous experience with genetic engineering and analytical chemistry is desirable but not required. The candidate must be well-organized, self-motivated and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
