Description
This research aims to understand electrolyte-electrode interfaces during electrodeposition for corrosion control applications. We are utilizing electrochemical techniques such as CV, CA, EIS, RDE, Microelectrodes and Mott-Schottky experiments to develop mechanistic descriptions of alloy electrodeposition. Particular attention is given to the influence of waveforms and additives, where structure property relationships of additives are are being developed. Our approach includes the use of EQCM to obtain gravimetric information of potential dependent adsorption isotherms and the use of GDOES for through thickness deposit composition. We are interested the use of novel electrochemical cells for in-situ spectroscopy such as NMR, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to probe the electric double layer, chemical structures and surface diffusion. Additionally, surface analytical techniques such as XPS and XAS are utilized to understand deposition and corrosion processes, with particular attention to oxidation and passive films.
