Description

This basic and applied research opportunity invites the applicant to define a research program that optimizes the synthesis of high purity nano-particles to be used in high density and nanostructured ceramics of various dielectric, ferroelectric, and magnetic compositions for consistent, reproducible results of interest to Navy, DoD, and the broader materials communityThe ideal candidate will have experience in some combination of the following: solid-state synthesis, solution-based processing techniques, ceramic sintering processes, structure-property relationships, magnetic materials, pizeoelectric and ferroelectric materials and measurements, and optical characterization techniques. The candidate will have access to experts in ceramic powder and nanomaterial synthesis, functional materials synthesis and characterization, and a suite of equipment and instruments that will enable this work, but are encouraged to contact the advisor to discuss their approach. Potential applications for this work range from the aerospace to energy sectors, including next-generation electrical or optical materials. This work is envisioned to have impact on multiple programs both within NRL and across the DoD.
