Description

The seabed knowledge base has dramatically improved over the last decade, due to advances in acquisition (e.g. Seabed 2030 mapping campaign) and modeling (geospatial machine learning applied to seabed problems). Despite these advances, much of our seafloor knowledge is derived from sediment cores, which are acquired via laborious and expensive crewed field campaigns. We seek postdoctoral researchers who will utilize sensors at various standoff distances from the seabed (water column, aerial, satellite) and/or modeling techniques (including numerical simulation and machine learning) to parameterize the seabed’s shape and composition without needing to sample it. We prioritize proposals that can also inform the temporal evolution of the seabed, including instability processes across a range of spatial and temporal scales.
