Description
The Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering at the US Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC (http://www.nrl.navy.mil/) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to perform research on the synthesis of heterocyclic small molecules for advanced materials with multiple DoW applications. Research will combine modern methods of synthesis with more traditional routes to access nitrogen-containing compounds, and when appropriate, new, practical methods to targets will be developed. The successful candidate will have earned a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and must possesses a strong background in method development, process chemistry, and/or target-oriented synthesis. Experience with heterocycles is a plus but not required. The candidate should be proficient in inert atmosphere techniques and have extensive hands-on experience with a variety of characterization techniques such as NMR, MS, and IR. Training on additional analytical techniques will be provided. Research projects will require the applicant to learn and apply the usage of modern process development tools to a broad set of chemical reactions. The candidate should possess excellent written and oral scientific communication skills and be adept at searching databases such as SciFinder. This research opportunity enables the candidate to work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers that are focused on synthesizing a wide range of materials.
