We are investigating synthetic methods to produce reactive metal nanopowders (RMNPs) with varying composition and properties. We have produced RMNPs in multi-gram quantities using sonochemically mediated routes. Some of the uniquely interesting properties of these materials include air stability and high combustion energy content. We are exploring the optimization of existing synthetic methods and the development of new approaches to making RMNPs as well as the chemistry involved with processing, derivitizing, and adding these powders to various useful formulations. We are also interested in developing new RMNPs for various applications, such as battery media, hydrogen storage materials, and others.
