Description

The objective of this research is to study the geophysical fluid dynamics and structures of ocean fronts and eddies both in the coastal and deep oceans. Specific processes of interest include transports, cross-frontal exchange, submesoscale physics, frontal instabilities, mixing, and nonlinear interactions between scales. Research on these topics is being conducted with a focus on in-situ techniques (e.g., profiling trawl-resistant moorings, gliders, and adaptive sampling from research vessels), together with a mixture of theoretical process studies and data assimilation with realistic ocean modeling.
