Description
This opportunity is for molecular virology, vaccinology, and humoral immunity research in the Viral Diseases Branch at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). Work will be conducted in the Medical Countermeasures Department and will focus on developing viral countermeasures for the warfighter against medically important flaviviruses, alphaviruses, coronaviruses, influenza viruses, and other emerging viruses. Projects might include development of assays for virus diagnostics, surveillance or vaccine efficacy studies. Projects could also evaluate the humoral immune response to natural infections or vaccinations in order to define correlates of protection. Small and large animal models might be developed to evaluate vaccines as well as other viral countermeasures. Projects may also focus on the rational design of live attenuated vaccines, replicon-based vaccine platforms, or the use of virus replicons and mRNA delivery systems to develop prophylactics.
