Description
Research to understand pathogenesis and natural history of disease following inhalation. Lung cellular and humoral immunological responses, both mucosal and deep lung, analyses of host targets and responses in the lungs, identify host response pathways and potential targets of intervention. Research using appropriate animal disease models involves evaluating efficacy of potential therapeutic and prophylactic medical countermeasures, understanding mechanism of protection, developing surrogate markers of efficacy, immune correlates, defining immunological responses in the lung following both vaccination and challenge.

Experience Supplement
Postdoctoral and Senior awardees will receive an appropriately higher stipend based on the number of years of experience past their PhD.

Additional Benefits
Relocation
Awardees who reside more than 50 miles from their host laboratory and remain on tenure for at least six months are eligible for paid relocation to within the vicinity of their host laboratory.

A group health insurance program is available to awardees and their qualifying dependents in the United States.
