Description
ECBC is developing a new program for advancing materials science through synthetic biology. We are looking for a recent graduate with a research background rooted in synthetic biology. In this opportunity we will be programming microorganisms to produce molecular feedstocks that have unique properties that can be incorporated into materials. For instance, biological processes can be used to create porphyrin derivatives (such as chlorophyll and hemoglobin), which have applications in light harvesting for energy storage and catalysis applications. The ideal candidate will be able to not only work independently, but also be successful working with a team of interdisciplinary scientists to design principles for the sequestration of molecular feedstocks of interest, as well as incorporation and characterization of these feedstocks into a diverse array of materials of interest. Additional opportunities may exist in the area of synthetic biology for materials science.
