Description
Synthetic and chemical biology provide powerful tools for the generation of new materials with unique properties. The development of these tools for a broad range of applications in materials science will provide critical advances that lead to generation of new materials with improved properties. These tools coupled with the concept of "Bacterial Factories" provide a method for point-of-use generation of a moderate value materials, including high performance polymers for additive manufacturing, metal precursors for additive manufacturing, and lubricants. We are interested in developing bacterial expressions systems, new materials based on synthetic biology, and technology for point-of-use generation on-demand production of biomaterials and biomimetic materials.
