Description

Please Note: This Research Opportunity is only available for the February 1 deadline.

Our goal is to quantify how physical and biological processes structure food web dynamics and impact fish communities in a regime of species invasions, habitat manipulation, and climate change. Research opportunities include (1) impact of invasive species on food web structure and function, (2) physiological response of organisms to rate- (temperature) and nonrate- (reefs) determining habitat, (3) habitat mediate trophic interactions, (4) application of sensor technologies (fisheries acoustics, ADCPs, side-scanning sonar, optical plankton counter, underwater video) for understanding the time dependent habitat requirements of aquatic organisms and their trophic interactions, and (5) role of physical processes (advection, turbulence, upwelling, fronts) and trophic interactions in structuring the recruitment of pelagic fishes. Our approach emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations and the interaction of technologies. Studies are performed in the field, laboratory, and by simulation models. Our research is conducted in the Laurentian Great Lakes and coastal marine ecosystems.
