Description
Research opportunities are available in various areas of contact and noncontact temperature measurement and applications from temperatures below 1 K to beyond 3000 K. Areas of interest include (1) the assessment and improvement of the accuracy of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90); (2) development of new fixed-point temperature standards based on metal eutectics; (3) direct realization of thermodynamic temperature; (4) determination of the Boltzmann constant using infrared radiometry, Johnson noise thermometry, dielectric thermometry, and acoustic thermometry with uncertainties comparable to or better than current methods; (5) development of new contact and noncontact temperature standards and dissemination approaches with uncertainties lower than current uncertainties; and (6) advancement of applications of contact and noncontact temperature measurement and standards in areas such as environmental monitoring, process measurement and control, and manufacturing.
