Description
We are working on precision waveform synthesis and metrological applications of the ac Josephson voltage standard (ACJVS). The ACJVS is one of several quantum-based systems that have or will soon supersede artifact electrical standards. The ACJVS works as a perfect quantizer: converting weakly-defined input current pulses into voltage pulses with precisely defined (V-t) areas equal to h/2e. Arbitrary waveform generation is accomplished by precisely controlling the timing and density of the input current pulses. Research projects range from signal processing topics (e.g., optimization of data converter algorithms to efficiently compute gigabit FFTs and minimize spurious tones) to precision electrothermal measurements in condensed matter physics (e.g., thermal Hall effect, heat transport in reduced dimensions or of novel materials).
