Description
Given the exponential increases in wireless demand, future generation networks will need to leverage higher frequencies (30 to 300 GHz) in addition to existing technologies operating below 6 GHz in order to meet the performance expectations of seamless user connectivity, improved speed, and ultra-reliability. However, there are new and unique set of challenges associated with using the higher frequency bands that need to be addressed before this becomes a reality. This research program focuses on developing the fundamental metrology to understand the signal propagation properties and enable the development of design and evaluation tools to characterize the wireless network performance. Research activities include the development and validation of channel propagation measurements and models, the development and evaluation of wireless communication protocols, the design and development of metrology tools, and mathematical and simulation models.
