Description

There is a large class of problems in which the radiation field of laboratory and astrophysical plasmas influences, and is influenced by, the plasma motion. The objective of this program is to develop the physics theories, models, and numerical simulation tools for the coupled self-consistent description of the non-LTE radiation magneto-hydrodynamics of laboratory and astrophysical plasmas. Individual critical elements of this research are atomic processes in plasmas, non-LTE ionization kinetics, absorption/emission physics, fluid-flow with radiation transport, electron beam generation, and plasma spectroscopy.
