Description
Research opportunities are available to participate in investigations that lead to an understanding of mechanisms of replication, antigenic structure, correlates of protection, and virulence properties of highly pathogenic human viruses, with the ultimate goal of preventing and treating diseases. Current efforts include (1) developing vaccines for bunyaviruses (2) determining the correlates of protection for bunyaviruses (2) elucidating mechanism(s) of innate immune response antagonism by hemorrhagic fever viruses (3) identifying virus and host protein interactions that contribute to virulence; and, (4) discovering novel antivirals and immunotherapeutics for hemorrhagic fever viruses. BSL2 and BSL4 containment laboratories are used as required to conduct these studies.
