Description

The Trauma Infections Research (TIR) group performs innovative and impactful research in the Wound Infections Department (WID) within the Bacterial Diseases Branch (BDB) at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR).  The mission of TIR is to develop host-targeted treatments against immune dysregulation and wound infections following combat-related polytraumatic injuries. The postdoctoral fellow will join our team to conduct translational research in the areas of combat-related animal modeling, bacterial and fungal pathogenesis, novel therapeutics, and effective diagnostics.  TIR currently focuses on the development of animal models of combat-relevant polytrauma to evaluate novel therapies against wound infections caused by multi-drug resistant ESKAPEE pathogens, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp. and Escherichia coli as well as the causative agents of invasive fungal infections such as Mucorales spp.  Additional research arctivites focus on host-specific immunological and physiological response to traumatic injury/insults and localized and systemic infections.
